Cahoon Care Associates is a non-medical home care agency serving seniors and their families throughout Greater Boston, the South Shore, Cape Cod, the South Coast of Massachusetts, and the Hancock County area of Maine. We are a family-owned business founded in 2010 by Margery Cahoon Parker and her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Parker. By providing highly customized personal care, companion care, and Alzheimer's and dementia care, our skilled caregivers and care managers help clients and their loved ones enjoy peace of mind. Cahoon Care is based in Hanover, Sandwich, Massachusetts, and Ellsworth, Maine.

Our co-founders directly manage our clients' care and have deep industry experience.

Before co-founding Cahoon Care in 2010, Margery Cahoon Parker worked for nearly 30 years as a healthcare industry analyst and portfolio manager for Boston investment firms. She worked closely with senior healthcare management teams to identify their business strategies, best practices, and new growth strategies.

Carolyn Parker, Margery's daughter-in-law, has over 30 years of experience in senior care and has managed and worked directly with seniors in various settings, including nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, and private homes.

Margery Cahoon Parker

Prior to co-founding Cahoon Care Associates, Margery worked for nearly 30 years as a health care industry analyst and portfolio manager for Boston investment firms, including Evergreen and Putnam Investments. She worked closely with senior health care management teams to identify their business strategies, best practices, and new growth strategies.

With an appreciation for the changing opportunities and challenges in the health care industry, as well as relevant business experience, she and several family members decided to leverage their experience and start Cahoon Care Associates. The mission for Cahoon Care is to service our elderly community and provide them with a level of comforting quality in home care that one would expect from their own family.

Margery currently serves on the Board for the North and South Rivers Watershed Association. She is a member of the Ellsworth, Maine Chamber of Commerce and The Senior Service Network of Boston South. Margery has a BA in Biology from Wellesley College and an MBA in finance from Babson College.

Margery Cahoon Parker

In 2010, recognizing the immense need for quality home care for seniors, Carolyn Parker co-founded Cahoon Care Associates. Her desire to help seniors live life to the fullest at home, coupled with an entrepreneurial spirit, made the concept of a home care agency with a personal touch the perfect solution.

With over 25 years of experience in elder care, Carolyn has managed and worked directly with seniors in a variety of settings, including several nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, and private homes. She has worked closely with elderly clients and families, managing and advocating on issues associated with Alzheimer’s and dementia, higher-quality standards, elder depression, nutrition and hydration, isolation, behavioral issues, home management, home safety, and end-of-life care.

She has directly trained and supervised nursing assistants on subjects including proper body mechanics, ADLs, transferring and ambulation, detecting and reacting to signs of distress and medication reaction, vital signs, intake and output documentation, universal precautions, wound care, Alzheimer’s and dementia, and caregiver burnout.

Allan D. Parker

Allan joined the Cahoon team in May 2017. Excited in his new role as the Director of Sales and Marketing. As a member of the Cahoon family, he is proud of the company and its growth and leadership and is looking forward to contributing his own experience to continue with this trend. His responsibilities include building partnerships with other local businesses so we can better personalize care for our clients and service them in their homes or assisted care living communities. As well as expanding Cahoon care’s services and service areas to include the Cape and the islands. He will also help in letting everyone know the extensive work Cahoon Care has done with Alzheimer’s in making them a premier care group in working with those afflicted with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Allan brings with him 10 years working in the medical device field in sales, marketing, and product management. His knowledge of the overall medical field will no doubt be a real asset to the team in providing insight and knowledge to help the company continue to grow.

Allan spends his free time with his family wife, child, grandchildren, and dogs. When not doing that he is involved with St. Paul’s Church in Newton Highlands. Where he is on the Pastoral Care Team, acting as a LEM and has served on the Vestry as well as completing the Stephens Ministry training program on behalf of the church.

Brianna Connors

Brianna Connors

Brianna started her career in the health and human services field in 2005. As a caregiver, Brianna assisted clients with varying age ranges and disabilities. While pursuing a degree in social work at Bridgewater State College, she was hired as a residential counselor, working in assisting five men who had all been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. In 2009, she transferred to The University of Nevada Las Vegas. There she had the opportunity to intern as a social worker in both the emergency room and the burn care unit at UMC hospital during her senior year.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree in social work from UNLV, she moved back to Massachusetts and accepted a position as a case manager in the supported living program. Brianna as the case manager she oversaw the overall care of the people in the program which duties included the hiring of caregivers, ongoing caregiver training, weekly client visits, as well as scheduling shift coverage, medical appointments, and transportation needs.

Then in 2015, Brianna had the opportunity to transfer as a case manager to the adult foster/family care program. Here, she utilized the skills and knowledge base to determine eligibility, qualifying home settings, make appropriate client referrals, and complete regular home visits.

From there Brianna joined the Cahoon Care Team in December of 2018 and has been working as a scheduler and caregiver mentor with the team. Becoming an integral part of the team and showing her dedication and natural leadership in short order.

Sara Bartels

Sara Bartels

Sara’s innate instinct to nurture and care for others became clear early in her life. From her school-aged years involving herself in outreach work, to her postgraduation year of service with City Year Corps — working in Boston’s inner-city schools with at-risk students, and participating in community outreach work. Sara’s connection to working with and caring for those in the community intensified. Sara then became certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and turned her focus to providing emergency care for the patients at Emerson Hospital in the Emergency Department and hospital-wide as a cardiac technician. Sara received her degree in Human Services from the University of Massachusetts Boston. For the next 6+ years, Sara engrossed herself battling the rising Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders/Addiction population in both residential and outpatient settings.

Looking to broaden her direct care spectrum, Sara joined the staff of Cahoon Care Associates in 2011, providing direct care for clients. Finding a great fit with the Cahoon Care team, Sara transitioned to full time as a care manager. Working with a team-based approach, Sara manages teams of caregivers providing 24-hour direct care for clients in their homes and other dwellings. Sara provides overall care management for Cahoon Care clients, ensuring all aspects of daily living and medical needs are addressed and monitored, affording client’s access to a quality of life in their choice of settings and peace of mind for their families.

Pippa MacVarish

Care Manager

Pippa MacVarish

Pippa began her career in the legal field for more than 15 years in numerous capacities. She worked for a Boston law firm as legal secretary while pursuing a degree in paralegal studies. She continued to work for the firm as probate paralegal handling estate and trust administration, working closely with clients and their families. She later managed the law firms day to day activities and operations as well as supervised and managed administrative support staff.

While assisting with her own grandparents caring, Pippa saw the need of both families and seniors looking for help with with daily living and personal caregiving in a home setting. Understanding these nuances of senior care, Pippa then decided on a career path as caregiver for a home health care agency.

Since 2008 she has provided personalized care in clients homes, assisted living and hospital facilities. She has worked closely with Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients, hospice and palliative care. Pippa joined Cahoon Care Associates in 2014.

In February, 2020 Pippa joined the Cahoon Care team as Care Manager. She hopes to bring her compassion and understanding of a caregiver to thoughtfully, effectively and respectfully communicate the needs of clients and their families with caregivers and their healthcare teams. While currently assisting in her own grandmother’s care, Pippa knows first hand the unique family dynamics involved in home care. As Care Manager, she will always bring a family centered approach to providing home care services.

Karen came to Cahoon Care with over two decades of leadership experience ranging from Managing a Fortune 500 Company’s specialty sales teams, selling custom trade show exhibits, to Operations of a small market research firm…and yes, a caregiver for two years.

Several years ago, she asked herself what the closing chapter of her working years should look like. Meaningful, challenging, and helpful to and for people was the answer. After graduating college in her early 50’s and starting a career as a paralegal in 2019, yes as in Covid-19 2019, that career was put on pause. At the same time, her dear friend and co-founder of Cahoon Care, Carolyn Parker, needed help recruiting to fill the ever-increasing demand for in home caregivers during the pandemic. They agreed this would be the perfect temporary solution for each of them. As they say, the rest is history. Karen finds there is always someone new to help, something new to learn, a new challenge on the horizon, and as she says, Cahoon Care is the perfect final chapter of her working years.

Volunteer work, or her mitzvah, is an important part of her life. She currently works with Barnstable Neighbor to Neighbor serving the elderly community. In the past, she worked with Our Daily Bread in Taunton, Fall River’s Mobile Food Bank, Citizens for Citizens in Fall River where she was awarded Volunteer of the Year, worked as a Rape Crisis Counselor, and as a Career Counselor for MCI Framingham’s reentry program.

Melangela “Jel” Caliwara

Melangela “Jel” Caliwara

Jel came to Cahoon Care with nearly a decade of experience in recruitment, successfully managing full cycle hiring processes in a variety of industries with a focus on the US and EMEA markets. Jel has recruited for many hard to fill positions including SaaS Sales, Nursing, Warehouse Operations, and Engineering. Most of her career has focused on the home care arena.

In her previous role at Everise, Jel led teams of Onboarding Specialists, Recruiters, and Sourcers. She excels in capacity planning, workload delegation, managing schedules, and driving recruiter performance through coaching and quality audits. Jel’s personable nature has resulted in meaningful connections with caregivers, clients, and applicants.

Outside of work, Jel enjoys cooking for her partner, Eril, and playing with their dogs, especially the new puppies, and relaxing with Netflix.

Stephanie McGuire

Stephanie is Ellsworth’s office HR Administrator. She works closely with Tammie, our Care Manager, caregivers, and clients to ensure we have the best care for our clients and the best support for our caregivers. Stephanie is responsible for all recruiting, onboarding, and training for the Ellsworth team. As a genuine people person, she excels in assessing skills, preferences, and personalities to ensure we connect the right caregiver for the client. She is all about creating meaningful connections and lives by the mantra that our caregivers are the backbone of Cahoon Care. Stephanie works tirelessly to invite only the best of the best to the Cahoon Care team.

Stephanie has a unique and diverse background including education, aerospace engineering, and Real Estate. She discovered that in the end, she is a people person. Stephanie thrives in her role as an HR Administrator, with exceptional critical thinking, warm and inviting communication, and making all who encounter her feel at ease.

Outside of work Stephanie enjoys family time with her husband, two children, and beloved yellow lab. They spend quality time together exploring the beautiful outdoors and enjoy being active members of the community.

Tammie Goggin

Tammie Goggin

Tammie Goggin joins the Cahoon Care team as the Admin and Scheduler with 20+ years of experience in healthcare.
She began her career in 1998 as a CNA working in nursing homes and elder care including 2 years on a brain injury unit. During Tammie’s experiences in healthcare, she worked in group home settings caring for intellectually impaired individuals. Tammie continued her education earning her college degree in Medical Assisting and medical coding. This lead her to opportunities working closely with doctors for several years assisting in various aspects of medical treatment. Her double major allowed her to cross train between medical assisting and medical office settings.

Through her journey in healthcare she has acquired a wide range of skills and abilities including scheduling, ordering supplies, computer software, triage, insurance referrals, coding, organization skills and much more.

Tammie is very compassionate with strong critical thinking skills. She is passionate when it comes to working as a team and assisting community members to function in their homes with safe plans achieving independent living as long as possible. Committed to life long learning and plans to continue to encourage others to reach their goals. Work life balance is something Tammie can certainly relate with and that understanding makes her an outstanding leader and team player.

Outside of her work life, Tammie enjoys reading, keeping fit, and most of all and number one in her life, spending time with her family.
